How to Get Rid of Fruit Flies in Your Sink?

Fruit flies can be a persistent issue, but with some targeted cleaning methods and preventative measures, you can eliminate them and keep your sink pest-free. 

Here are some methods you can apply to get rid of the problem:

Clean the Drain Thoroughly

Start by pouring half a cup of baking soda down the drain, followed by half a cup of white vinegar. The fizzing reaction helps break down organic matter and residue that attract fruit flies. Let the mixture sit for 15 minutes, then rinse with boiling water to remove debris.

For tougher clogs or severe infestations, use a commercial drain cleaner that’s safe for your pipes. Follow the instructions on the drain cleaner carefully, as these products can be potent.

Set Up a DIY Fruit Fly Trap

Pour a small amount of apple cider vinegar into a bowl and add a few drops of dish soap. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and poke small holes in the top. The vinegar attracts the flies, and the dish soap breaks the surface tension, causing the flies to sink and get trapped.
